Good Things Come To Those Who Wait

And it's finally official ...

Next summer, the Perlman family will be moving to the Washington, DC area where Matt will be the new Special Assistant to the Director of Diplomatic Security Service.

While most people parlay their Iraq tour into a premier overseas assignment, we decided to do the reverse commute. After being overseas for seven years (eight for Matt), we knew it was time to come "home". Matt wanted to reintroduced himself to the organization since a lot has changed from when he first went overseas, and this higher level headquarters position enables him to view the organization from the top, while looking at the big picture type of issues.

We are extremely excited for this new Stateside adventure, and for the opportunity for Matt to work with the Director, who we know well from our tour in Israel, once again.

All we can say now is ... we're almost home Perlman family ... we're almost home!

Hey congrats! I hear that's a tough job - but he should be able to get another nice job out of that one, too.

Of course, now you have to bid again in another year, right? Sigh. It's never-ending...

I am so glad the waiting is over, for now anyway, and I am glad you are happy with your assignment. Waiting for the answer after you bid is so stressful. Now you can start planning for the next tour, and house hunting again. Hopefully you will find a house with more bedrooms and bathrooms this time.

Yay! This sounds like a terrific move for all of you and a wonderful career opportunity for Matt too, I'm so pleased. (Hmmm... my SIL lives in Baltimore. Usually she comes up to NH to see us, maybe we can do the reverse one summer.)

What a great position - fantastic! If Matt wants to reintroduce himself to the Mothership, that's a VERY good way to do it. Congrats to him!

We lived in No VA for a year and really enjoyed all the District had to offer. We were in the Centreville area and it was a little bit away but still close enough to 2 Wegmans, Fairfax Corner, Ben's Chili Bowl.
PS I am new to your blog via Classy Chaos who is a friend.

Great news Jill. We have a home in Arlington, VA which is my favorite place in the States by far. I'm sure you will find your perfect niche neighborhood there. Whatever you do, make sure you hit Miyagi Sushi in McLean for me next year! Congrats to your husband on such a great job assignment.
