Did You Hear The One Where I Told Grady To Go Play With His Balls?

Yeah ... I really did. And I really meant it. Just not quite the way it was interpreted...

See, he was trying to run outside, and in order to keep him corralled I suggested he stay inside and play with his balls ... his soccer balls.

Whatever it was ... the double entendre, the Freudian slip ... I laughed at myself like a teenage girl for much longer than was socially acceptable.

Why? Because ... boys are gross.

For the past 22 months I've been asked if I notice any differences between having boys and girls. And up until recently I really hadn't. Sure, I have to make sure I remember to angle Grady "down" so I don't have pish coming out the top of the diaper. But other than that? He sings the same songs the girls do (and did at that age). He plays with the same toys that they do (Barbies, high heeled shoes, horses and cars). He'll even sit with them and read books.

However, though he plays with THE same toys IN the same way, I have noticed in the past few months that his mannerisms are ALL boy.

It's as if he automatically knows that the second his diaper comes off for a bath or a diaper change, it's time to grab his nether regions like he's vying for a gold medal in the new Olympic sport of penis pulling and testicle tugging. He also knows that sleeves are solely for wiping noses and shirts are unlimited napkins. Sir Edmund Hillary? Eh ... he has nothing on this little climber, who amazingly scales every single thing in his path.

He throws. He hits. He screams. He runs around. He laughs. He does it all again. And again. And again. The boy is full of energy. More energy than I remember the girls having at that age. He keeps me busy. He keeps me very, very busy.

But the biggest noticeable difference between the girls and my little man?

He sure does love to play with balls.

Ball playing is the olympic sport for boys.Boys have more energy than any kid I have met. I am the oldest of 22 grandkids and worked many daycares. The boys ran circles around the girls. They tended to be sweet to the workers compared to the girls.

Oh there are huge differences between boys and girls, thinking spiders in mom's face are funny for instance. I have nieces almost the same age and Alonzo and Colin, one day I bought bug boxes for all four kids. The girls caught snails, rolly pollies, and lady bugs then picked flowers and grass to decorate the bugs house. The boys caught beetles, spiders and caterpillars. Then it was like gladiator as they waited to see which bug would be the winner and kill all the other bugs. UGH!

i just spent the last 2 weeks with my 2-year-old nephew. he loved talking about his balls, playing with his balls, and anything and everything that had to do with this region.

an entirely different world than what i am used to with my sweet little girl crumb.

LOL! Just wait 'till he's a teen! Never a day will go by that he's not talking about his balls or his "cup" or his new pubes or something else about down there! Allegedly.

See this is all normal behavior to me since there are mostly boys in my house. It the girl that completely baffles me.

What am I suppose to do with all this drama and moodiness?

I will also say, having 2 of each, and loving all 4 dearly, there is something about boys love for their mommies. Just wait, it's awesome.

Seth loves to play with his "choo choo." We got that nickname from Bernie Mac :-) He also loves to be naked...running up and down the hall doing the "naked baby run" before bath time...with the exception of the naked run (or not)...some things never change with men ;-)

Haha- my parents call my little brother "Tugger" for that very thing. He's twenty now and he gets so embarrassed about it - it's hilarious!

Hahaha!!! That is too funny. And I totally get it.

After three boys I noticed a huge difference between boys and girls right away. I used to have dolls around the house for the boys to play with but they never would. The mostly used books for chewing on and ripping up. They have an attention span of about 3 seconds and would never sit still for a cartoon or to color. They were difficult sleepers compared to my girl. And yes, they love to play with their balls.

Well, like I said, also Nick's favorite toy(s). So favorite that it's been a bit of a hindrance with the potty business...but at least he always has a toy nearby ;-)

Laughed out loud reading this post. Our little boy is too young (almost 2 mo.) to be playing with his balls (though I know it's only a matter of time) but I ve already noticed the difference when diapering a boy. I have to cover his pee pee with a napkin, otherwise we both get the "golden rain." And his doctor told me about the pointing his pee pee down, so the pee doesn't go up and out.

I am not sure if I can handle it if my son has more energy than my daughter. She is such a dynamo it's hard to imagine a kid that has more energy than her.

Oh, and I am sure Grady will love you for writing this post one day.

My boy is 14 months old, and I just started to notice his need to grab himself whenever I take his diaper off, lol.

He's also started to play with his toy cars more, and he LOVES balls! Yesterday he made a beeline all the way across the park when he saw another little boy playing with a beach ball. At least balls and toy cars are cheap! Pretty soon they'll be into all the electronic stuff.

So I asked my husband why little boys are always holding themselves and he said, "Grown men would do it too, if they could get away with it." lol and ewww

LOL - boys are definitely different. Mind you - I still haven't managed to persuade my 4 year old daughter that she doesn't have 'nuts'. She wants to be just like her brothers......
