In My Spare Time...

I sew.

I'm a total Becky-Home-Ecky!

I love the process of deciding what I'm going to make, and watching the transformation take place from unwrapping a few metres of folded up fabric to photographing the finished piece.

When we moved into our new house we decided to put the girls into bigger beds as the size of their room was much larger than their previous one, and the space could accommodate both of them in queens. However, we only had bedding for their twin beds ( which, if you remember, I also made...). I now had to design an entirely new ensemble.

The girls took an active role in deciding what they wanted and sent me to the store to pick out the fabric. After two trips to an amazing fabric store near our house, I came home on Saturday with about 30 metres of the most colorful designs... bright pinks, gorgeous aquas, emerald greens, satin purples... just enough to sew two queen duvets, two queen bed skirts, and 6-8 throw pillows. The girls squealed with delight.

I finished with both of their bed skirts. It's exciting to see how different their beds look now that they finally have them... the pop of color really adds something to the room.

Here are a few photos of them... Sheridan's is the pink one, Riley's is the blue. Just remember that I took these photos at 7 pm... the room has no natural light. I also threw in a few photos of the little munchkin for good measure. 'Cuz hey ~ he's cute, and in my other bits of "spare time" I spend it with him...

Awesome job. I've made a crib-sized bedskirt and quilt, but it scares me to work with something on a much larger scale like that.

He really is adorable. What a smile!

Oh my god he's SO CUTE! And you are so talented. I totally wish I could sew. When did you learn? I love the colors you've chosen and can't wait to see the final results! Bravo!

Wow, so impressed. I wish that I could sew. I can't imagine where you find the time for that stuff.

You know, I was just sitting here feeling all proud of myself because I stuffed three baby socks full of rice and sewed 'em shut so my son could learn to juggle. But then I came here. Really feeling untalented now. Oh, well. I'll never be a seamstress, but at least now I can take up juggling.
