Driving In India

Here are the first few video clips that I filmed while driving (actually while my driver was driving). Please excuse my shaking hand. I took these out the window of the car, and it wasn't as easy to do as I would have thought.

Now that I know the picture is just as clear over the dashboard, I'll take a few more and send them out. Until then... here's a small glimpse of what driving is like in Chennai.

This clip is us stuck in typical rush hour traffic. Keep in mind that this is a 2 lane road...

Here we are on a a narrow flyover (aka an almost 2 lane bridge).

Trying to change lanes can be a lot tougher than one would think. It took us over a minute to get around the cars, only to have the motorcyclists whizzing by a little too close for my taste.

My brother was killed on a motorcycle. I get nervous being around them here--I would be crazy there. That is serious traffic. Be careful driving. Just think what a driver you'll be next time you're stateside--nothing will phase you.

WHOA...that's crazy. All those motorbikes would be too difficult to keep track of. Where are they....are they cutting in...cutting out? Crazy.

I'm really glad you have a driver.

That driving reminds me of Athens, Greece. The ambulances couldn't even get through. Craziness.

It's clear now why having a driver is a necessity. The motorcycles scared me.

Pure chaos! I'd need to wear a blindfold (as a PASSENGER, of course!)

It almost looks like there are NO lanes in some of those clips. Wow. Motorbikes seem to be prevalent too. I can see how it would be a little scary driving around! Very cool to see though, thank you for sharing that!

Thank you also for visiting me on my SITS day Monday!

That's crazy! I could definitely not drive in that.

Too bad we can't spread our traffic rules around the world!

ohmy GOD...that would require a whole lot of stress tabs before driving! If they've always known that, then it's fine for them. My hair would fall out in clumps and I'd probably dig holes in my flesh with my fingernails.

Good luck with your driving there!

EEK!
