Name That Rash - Round 2!

As if Round 1 with Sheridan wasn't bad enough, Riley decided to go all out and top her with Round 2... just two days before our big vacation!!

She woke up complaining about her feet this morning... crying through breakfast and whining when she put on her shoes. She kept saying that they hurt, though I couldn't find anything wrong with them.

As I was making dinner tonight she came into the kitchen telling me that I HAD to stop what I was doing and look at her back. Holy Moly... THAT got my attention. I had her immediately strip naked so I could inspect her body. This bright red raised rash covered her back and stomach, and was slowly making its way up her neck and onto her face.

Yeah, I kinda freaked out. Why? Because there's no real doctor around here who can correctly diagnose a rash of any kind... and the last thing I need at 26ish weeks pregnant is to get an unidentifiable rash in a place I probably where I can't find anything to treat it (though that's not saying I want it on my daughter any less than on me...).

One thing is for certain. It isn't the same rash as Sheridan's... it looks entirely different AND it itches terribly. Lucky for us, daddy returned home mere minutes after I stripped her down, and he quickly diagnosed her rash as hives. And after taking a good look at her swollen ear ... and seeing photos on google images (I love that site), it sure does look like that's what she has. For the next ten minutes we quizzed her on every single solitary thing she did during her day today... what she ate, who she played with, what she touched, what her class did... the poor thing was obviously upset about her rash, yet she gave very detailed answers to all of our questions. She was quick to point out that she didn't even like the cake at the birthday party in her class, and she swears she didn't eat any shellfish (as we don't know if she's allergic to it like her father).

Two Benadryl tablets did the trick and within twenty minutes her ear was almost back to its normal size and color, and her itching had subsided. What's the culprit? Who knows... Remember, this IS India.

I think we should start playing another game besides name that rash. Like, where did this bucket of money come from? That would be a more pleasant game for you.

Oh my goodness, poor kid. That's really, really sad. I hope she's feeling better soon.

I remember when Jason was 4 and he came up to me and was complaining about an 'itchy' spot on his back. AS soon as I realized it was chicken pox, poor thing I almost threw him away from me. I've never had them. :) Fortunately my other three got the shot.

I hope whatever got Riley was an isolated thing. Be careful in the sun on vacation--like that's possible. :)

Poor little thing! She looked absolutely fine before karate - incredible how these things creep up on us!

Nothing on Sheridan? Something to be grateful for!

What was in the cake that she didn't like? Is she allergic to any fruit? Strawberries? Mangos? Kiwi? Or maybe she was bitten by some sort of bug. My hubby has been bitten a few times over the past 10 years and whatever type of bug that bites him, gives him hives and a swollen arm or ear or wherever he was bitten. Very strange. I hope this quickly subsides so you can enjoy Phuket!

Much love from NJ,
Sue

Poor thing, that looks miserable. Did she receive any medication over the last week or two?

I've had reactions like that to drugs I'm allergic to, and just a few months ago Itai got head to toe hives (also just 3 days before a major international trip - one of my kids is ALWAYS sick right before we travel), but the kicker is that he got the rash on day NINE of a course of penicillin. It took that long to trigger an allergic reaction.

Poor Riley! When Miss Pink had hives for the first time, I had no idea what it was. (Still don't know what caused it, but Benadryl took care of it.)

Aww. Poor kid. Rashes always scare me. I don't know why. They just seem so hard to treat sometimes.
So glad the Benadryl worked so well. :)

Yikes! So glad that Benadryl knocked it out.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a gardener and could he have sprayed anything recently? I used to get horrendous hives from some spray used on rose bushes.

PS Happy Birthday to your baby girl (big girl?). That is one awesome cake mom.

Love that benadryl! And will admit I am cracking up that as a good blogger you had the sense to grab the camera!

Oh my goodness! Although, I am thankful for you guys that it is hives and not some crazy infection. At least hives can't really be spread around. But, I do hope you find out what caused it!

I hate rashes...mostly because they look so similar to each other!

that looks like it was a very uncomfortable rash! Glad to hear a couple Benadryl cleared it up!

Awwww, poor thing! It hurts my heart when they are hurting.
Our Ms. Indepentdent (4) had a mysterious rash that the drs in here stateside never could figure out. 2 days and $500 bucks later, it was gone and the drs were still scratching their heads.
